On the date of October 3, 2005 the clocks have been stopped and yet another critical crossroads for our future has been gone through seamlessly. Now, Turkey is a country in an altered status with the EU, for which the road map to "start the accession talks" has been determined. On this occasion, I am offering my thanks on behalf of TÜGİAD to all those who have contributed in the past and up until today. However, the real process is going to begin from now on. All kinds of views and approaches put forward on Turkey’s journey into the EU must be a lot more imperturbable and knowledge-based after today. Because; the European Commission Report dated October 6, 2004, the Brussels Summit on December 17 and then the content of the Negotiation Framework Document on October 3 all reveal that our country, and consequently we have quite a difficult, long-range job ahead of us. For this reason we need to use our energy and time more efficiently. Now, we all have to enter a dimension of perception and interprepation based on "knowledge" instead of "emotion" on the issue of the EU. In the new period, along with knowledge, we also need courage, imperturbability, and we need to develop the feeling of trust in our nation. These qualities of ours are going to be our fundamental bases to overcome possible tensions that might arise in the process of negotiations and to reach solutions. The ultimate goal is to attain the level of "contemporary civilisations" as stated by the founder of our Republic M.Kemal Atatürk. We perceive the term ahead of us in accordance with this goal and we believe that we have to be more sensitive and right minded for Turkey of our dreams. In the process of our country’s accession to the EU, the contribution to be made by the non-governmental organisations will be extremely important. On this occasion, I would like to express that, as TÜGİAD, also after today we will without interruption be continuing our efforts to take action in the name of the responsibilities we have assumed so far. Because; the main declaration of will to make this process solid will fundamentally be made by the EU and Turkish society. Ensuring and channelling this will properly is extremely important in bringing the process to a successful conclusion in accordance with its goal. In conclusion, we must correctly manage the new process that has started as of October 3, 2005, and strengthen our bases. We believe and trust in our country, our nation and ourselves. |
