BİREYLER DEVLET İÇİN DEĞİL, DEVLET BİREYLER İÇİN VAROLMALI MURAT BEKDİK Öncelikle, yüzyılın en büyük deprem felaketlerinden birini yaşayan Türk halkına, kaybettikleri yakınları için başsağlığı ve bu felaketten kurtulan vatandaşlarımıza ise geçmiş olsun dileklerimizi sunarız. Deprem felaketi bireyleri ve kurumlarıyla eksiklerimizi yüzümüze vurdu. Türkiye'de kamuoyunu dikkate almayan politikaların geçerliliğini yitirdiğinin işaretlerini verdi. Sivil toplum gücünün giderek daha organize ve bilinçli hale geldiğini ortaya koydu. Bu gerçek, Türkiye'de birçok şeyin değişeceğinin, hiçbir şeyin eskisi gibi kalmayacağının en büyük göstergesidir. Dolayısıyla, Sivil Toplum Kuruluşlarının örgütlenmesi yaygınlaştıkça ve bu örgütlerin başarı grafikleri yükseldikçe, halkın kendi gücüne olan inancı daha da artacak, halkın gücünü dikkate alan yeni bir siyasetçi tipi doğacak ve eski örnekler tarihe karışacaktır. Bu bağlamda, deprem felaketi yarattığı sorunlar sonucu, Türkiye'nin kronikleşen problemlerinin de çözüm yollarını ortaya koydu. Çözüm, toplumun sivil ve resmi birey ve kurumlarıyla birlikte hareket ederek, bireylerin devlet içi değil, devletin bireyler için varolduğunu kabul eden bir zihniyetle çağdaş bir toplum olmaya doğru yürümektedir. MURAT BEKDİK: THE STATE FOR THE INDIVIDUAL, NOT THE INDIVIDUAL FOR THE STATE First of all, we would like to convey our condolonces to the Turkish people who have lost their loves ones during one of the most devastating earthquakes of the century, we would like to als extend our feelings of support for those who have survibed this terrible disaster. The earthquake disaster has helped us realize our shortcommings as individuals as well as institutions. It gave us the sign that policies which disregard the public opinion are no longer valid. It showed us that the power of the civil society has become more organized and aware. This fact is the most important indication that many thinhs in Turkey are bound to change and nothing will ever stay the same. As Non-Governmental Organizations become more organized and successful, te people will have more faith in their own strenght, and the new type of politicians will have to take into consideration the power of the people, as the former type of politiciams fades into history. The issues created bye the earthquake disaster also presented the solutions for many chronic problems of Turkey. The solution is to strive to become a modern society through the coordinated action of all actors in the society - non-governmental and governmental - with a disposition which foresees that the state is there for the individual and not the other way round.
